Saughton Park

Our Land Group, based at Waterside Workshops in Gorgie, work at the park once a week.  They work closely with Allan, the Head Gardener.

“Allan has some tools that we can use but sometimes we take our own as well. The types of jobs he has for us depend on the season. Some of the jobs that we do are raking leafs in autumn, cutting back shrubs, planting the flower beds and bulbs, taking up and cutting back plants to clear space and plant more, edging the grass and collecting rubbish. Some of our time is also  just spent enjoying the park, playing spontaneous games and generally enjoying being outside.

Our walk to the park is also an important part of the day. We leave waterside and walk un the short path by the waters of leith. We see the seasonal changes and wildlife that lives there. We have seen dippers, kingfisher, heron, ducks, squirrels. Sometimes we do a litter pick along the way. ”
