Values and Philosophy
Garvald Edinburgh bases its work on the inspiration and thinking of Rudolf Steiner.
First and foremost we recognise that we have as much, if not more, to learn from those we support, as we have to offer them.
Our whole community is enriched by the measure to which we genuinely include and value all of our membership.
Garvald Edinburgh is part of the worldwide movement of curative education and social therapy.
The social therapeutic approach to our work is fundamentally linked to an attitude; a quality of respect and care; an attention to detail and a sense of the shared destiny of individuals.
We try to create an environment where people can grow in confidence and self-esteem. In fulfilling our own potential for independence, we equally recognise and value the importance of human interdependence, a community which encompasses the strengths and vulnerabilities of all its members.
A central principle of our work is respect for the other person regardless of the nature of their disability or the difficulties they may face in meeting the world.
Our work celebrates the potential of every individual for creativity and self-discovery.
