Garvald Edinburgh is seeking to recruit a building professional to join the Board and act as the primary advisor on all aspects of building and property management, including construction, refurbishment, maintenance and Health & Safety.
Garvald Edinburgh is one of Edinburgh’s foremost charities providing services to vulnerable young people and adults with learning needs. The organisation has five sites in the City which offer work and learning opportunities ranging from woodwork, glass-making, weaving and bread making to name just a few. Our rented buildings house workshops and hubs that support some 250 individuals supported by over 100 staff.
We currently have one major £0.5m refurbishment project about to begin and an on-going maintenance programme to co-ordinate and manage.
We are looking for a positive and committed individual to advise the Board and the organisation’s senior team on all aspects of our property portfolio. You are likely to operate, or have operated in, a senior and/or leadership role within a company or organisation with a sizeable property portfolio and have led on medium to large scale building projects. You will hold a professional qualification as an architect, quantity surveyor or related profession and be keen for a new challenge. Someone with an interest in, or experience of, services in the third sector, or working with vulnerable people, would be particularly welcome although this is not essential.
Membership of the Board of Garvald Edinburgh requires a commitment to attend Board meetings 6-8 times a year and to play a part in Committees and Working Groups as necessary. Board meetings are normally held on weekday evenings from 4.30pm to 7pm. Liaison with the CEO and visits to sites are likely to involve ad hoc meetings during working hours.
This position may suit a recently retired professional but will also be an attractive opportunity for someone looking for experience of working at Board level.
No remuneration is offered although expenses may be claimed in limited circumstances.
The successful candidate will be required to join, or to already be a member of the PVG scheme before formal offer of appointment.
For more information please contact Alan Swift, Board Chairperson: email@example.com
Closing date 31st July 2019. Formal applications by CV should be sent to:
