Who We Are

We are a Voluntary Organisation. Garvald Edinburgh is a Company Limited by Guarantee with charitable status. We are registered to provide accommodation and day services for adults with learning disabilities.
Picture of Rudolf Steiner
We are inspired by the ideas of Rudolf Steiner

Garvald Edinburgh started in 1969 in a Community Care House in Merchiston Avenue. Others followed and currently we function in more than nine sites. We are one of 6 Garvald organisations in Lothian and the Scottish Borders. Each Garvald has its own management and Board structure. The others are Garvald West Linton and Home Farm in Dolphinton, Glenesk in Dalkeith, and the Engine Shed and Columcille in Edinburgh.

There are about 120 people who use our day services in Gorgie Road, Orwell Arts and the Mulberry Bush Shop (77 Morningside Road). Another group of about 40 people live in our Care Home or in supported tenancies.

Including permanent staff, relief workers and volunteers, Garvald Edinburgh has over one hundred people supporting those who use the service.
