Seasons Greetings from Orwell Arts

Musical performance at the Garvald Orwell Arts open day!

Last Saturday, Orwell Arts had its open day. All the workshops were open for visitors and people had the chance to try out activities in each workshop. The Kitchen had a delicious selection of cakes and hosted a bustling cafe - thank you to the kitchen team and all the hardworking volunteers!

The music group teamed up with musical enthusiasts in the Media Workshop to put on a Christmas concert. Richard led the band, performing Jingle Bells, Away in a Manger and In The Bleak Midwinter, among other favourites!

In Pottery, there were two craft activities: painting ceramic decorations and making mosaic pot stands and coasters. In the weaving, Visitors had the opportunity to create their own woven bookmarks and felted decorations. There was Zine making in Media, and mosaic Christmas ornaments to be made in Glass. The Artists hosted talks up in Painting which were a huge success, they had a captivated audience and a full workshop with five artists participating.

As well as being a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the workshops’ creative achievements, it was also a chance for old friends to catch up. “It was a great event for socialising!” Amy O’Sullivan from the Media workshop commented. “The best part of the whole day was the sausage rolls!” added Daniel.

The Media Workshop enjoyed showcasing the film and photography projects they had been working on. These included the now-classic Christmas film The Bear Went Over the Mountain, but also new short documentaries on the theme of Morning.

We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and thank everyone for coming to our open day and supporting Garvald this year!
