Silversmithing at Marchmont House

Earlier this year, Garvald Mayfield House members and staff attended the Marchmont House Silversmithing Workshop.

They learnt a technique called chasing, where a relief is hammered into sheet metal using punches. The metal is set in a bowl of pitch, which holds the metal while you work.

This was a great opportunity for everyone to improve their skills, and to bring new ideas back to the Jewellery workshop at Mayfield House.
